English medieval theatre was not only a realm of entertainment, but one of education. Moreover, as England was a Christian nation, it is no surprise that its plays functioned in didactic accordance with religious teachings of the time. Christianity, however in accordance with love and forgiveness it may have been, was not without its enemies, one of which in medieval England was "the Jew".
